MagnoLab is a network of enterprises in the textiles industry
established to develop concrete solutions for the sector,
generate value and collaborate in responding to
the demands of today and tomorrow.

A team of professionals from the Italian textiles industry
who combine their know-how to develop
innovation in a structured way.

MagnoLab's mission

Implementing projects in sustainability and the circular economy with a joint, participatory approach among partners.
Generating value by developing innovative products and processes with rapid experimentation cycles, on the basis of the lean management model.

About MagnoLab

MagnoLab is a network of enterprises set up in 2022 by a group of companies located in the Biella area and active for more than 50 years: DBT Fibre, De Martini, Marchi & Fildi, Filidea, Di.Vè, Pinter Caipo, Maglificio Maggia and Tintoria Finissaggio 2000. These companies operate in various parts of the textiles industry with complementary roles in the production chain, working together in synergy and sharing the same goals, enterprising spirit and farsightedness. The entity MagnoLab is already growing and counts international partners among its network. Our philosophy is based on openness to new partners of the sector to cooperate.

The MagnoLab approach:
pilot plants for development of innovation

The strong point of the MagnoLab network of enterprises is a physical network of pilot plants, installed on a single site in Cerrione (Biella), where the companies work on collaborative development of innovative products and processes with rapid, streamlined experimentation processes.

This unique form of organisation concentrates prototyping work for presentation to future
customers and experimentation with product and process solutions for direct transfer to partners’ plants, before proceeding with mass production.

The pilot plants are set up with industrial machinery on which to develop new projects under conditions perfectly representing the reality of the industry, offering an opportunity to work independently of the demands of production and interact directly with partners in the industry.

In this setting, the participating companies can experiment with the processes forming the principal links in the textile industry’s chain of production, from fibre preparation to spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing and confectioning.

Interaction with the world of
technical education

One of MagnoLab’s truly outstanding and innovative qualities is the ability to establish connections and partnerships with educational institutes in the field of textiles and fashion, in Italy and abroad.
MagnoLab acts as a link between the worlds of education and enterprise, promoting interaction and implementation of concrete projects.

MagnoLab is a unique place combining teaching with research and development in a system as complex as the textiles industry itself, in which students can play an active role in the research projects under way and form connections with the market.

The institution has already established this kind of link with ITS TAM (Istituto Tecnico Superiore Tessile Abbigliamento Moda, a vocational institute for studies in the area of textiles, clothing and fashion), allowing students to learn in specially equipped laboratories in the factory and then develop and concretely test their ideas and solutions on the machines in the pilot plant.

De Martini s.p.a.

De Martini has been working in the textile-manufacturing field since 1960.
In 1973, with the experience acquired in processing synthetic fibres, it took up a new challenge and started to produce capillary flow-control filters that are used as reservoirs in writing instruments, in the field of cosmetics and in air fresheners.
In 1986 a plant was set up for producing polyester fibres for specific uses that enabled the product range and relative applications to be extended.
In the 1990s De Martini created a division, DBT FIBRE spA, that continued the textile business by developing and producing mixed fibres and webs for spinning.
The new De Martini SpA thus concentrates almost entirely on designing and manufacturing capillary flow-control filters giving a great impulse to new applications, and new, especially foreign, markets, and has forged the partnership with the Hitkari group based in Mumbai, India.
The company produces and markets acetate, polyester and polypropylene fibre filters and supplies the world’s leading manufacturers of writing instruments, air-freshening devices and beauty care products.
